Chennai 1st, Sep.: Tamil Nadu Power Minister V.Senthilbalaji got a relief after the Madras High Court quashed the summons he was issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money laundering case.The investigation was launched as a result of charges of racketing in the workplace against Senthilbalaji as well as two other suspects by local police years ago.
A division bench comprised of Justices T.Raja and Kumaresh Babu granted the writ petitions of Senthilbalaji, along with co-accused B.Shanmugham and R.V.Ashokkumar to rescind the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate against them on April 29.
The petitioners also asked that the court declare the investigation launched against them by the ED as unconstitutional and illegal.
The ED had registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against petitioners on July 29 2021.The case was filed pursuant to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002.
The ED had taken notice of the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch registering three FIRs against the minister for alleged charges of accepting bribes to nominate conductors and drivers when he was the transport minister in the former AIADMK government.
