Asia Cup 2022: Rashid surpasses Southee to become the 2nd highest wicket-taker in T20Is for men

Sharjah 31 August : Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan on Tuesday took a leap over New Zealand pacer Tim Southee to become the second highest wicket-taker in T20Is for males in his team’s victory over Bangladesh in the group B game of the Asia Cup 2022 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium Here.
The leg-spinner who started the game with 112 scalps in this format, picked up 322 with the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain and Mahmudullah and went on to take 115 wickets and climb up to No.2 in the men’s T20I bowling charts.

Southee was ranked second in the list of wicket-takers with 114 wickets prior to the game.

Shakib Al Hasan is holding his record with 122 wickets.This is the most by any player in the game for men, and the second highest in all T20Is behind West Indies’ Anisa Mohammed (125).

The 23-year-old leg spinner has had an impressive T20I career thus far and has a batting average of 13.73 and an economy rate of 6.16 after 68 games in the format.He has recorded six hauls of more than four wickets in T20Is and is also the joint-highest in the game for men.

Rashid’s spell that followed an incredible three wicket haul by Mujeeb Rahman, has helped Afghanistan limit Bangladesh to 127/7 in 20 overs.

It required a stunning 17-ball 43 that was not out by Najibullah Zadran to allow Afghanistan to secure a victory and establish their place in the top of Group B in Asia Cup 2022 and make sure they qualify for the next round.
