New Delhi, Aug 26 : GMR Group on Friday named their newly acquired franchise in Legends League Cricket (LLC) as “India Capitals”.The previous Thursday GMR Group had announced that they had purchased an LLC franchise in the league.It has completed the third investment in franchise cricket in addition to being the co-owners of the Delhi Capitals in IPL and more recently, Dubai Capitals in the ILT20.ILT20.
“It is a source of joy and pride to introduce GMR Sports new team in the most recent version of the legendary cricket league -the India Capitals.GMR has been in close association with the game of cricket for over two decades in the past.”
“Our connection with cricket began with our IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.Then we expanded our Capitals universe with our First overseas team in the International League T20, with the Dubai Capitals and now with India Capitals in the legends cricket league.
We have tried to provide our fans who are similar to our family members with experiences they will treasure for many years to come,” said Kiran Kumar Grandhi the Managing Director of GMR Group.
The upcoming season of the Legends Cricket League will be an all-female franchise model, which is a departure from the three-team model in the previous season.
The league declared that the forthcoming season will be solely dedicated to the 75th anniversary celebration of India’s Independence and will be held in India starting on September 16 and onwards, beginning with a special game between India and the World as India Maharajas vs World Giants in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
“The game of cricket has played a crucial role in building a strong connection with the cricket community and fans both globally and nationally.
with India Capitals we’ve attempted to take another step towards our ideals, of creating a strong ecosystem for the sport,” added Grandhi.
According to an announcement made recently the second season of LLC will start with the special match in Kolkata then followed by matches in Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack and Jodhpur.
The finals and play-offs are expected to take place in Dehradun.
“What makes this partnership more appealing is that Legends Cricket League will feature some of the top cricketers that have played a important role in the spread of this sport not just in every region of India but across the globe as well.”
