Hyderabad 25 August : In an unusual case doctors at the Hyderabad hospital removed over 150 maggots (baby houseflies) from the nose of the patient, who was suffering from mucormycosis following being infected by Covid-19.
The doctors at Century Hospital saved the life of the patient who is 50 years old, who lives in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.

The skull’s base surgeon Janakiram was the leader of the team of experts to perform surgery on the patient who was admitted to the hospital in a state of delusions.

The patient was infected with Covid-19 around six months ago.This resulted in mucormycosis, which is called black fungus.The infection was spreading to her brain the right eye of the patient was removed.

Her kidney function was affected and she was diagnosed as diabetic.

When she was admitted to Century Hospital, the team of experts found the presence of a plethora of maggots (also called larvae of houseflies/baby houseflies) in her nose.

This was due to the fact of her sick health caused by which she did not realize the problem nor did she be able to complain about it.

“Examination of the patient revealed the presence of maggots that were located just below the brain.In addition, when you consider her blood sugar levels that were high and weak kidney function the patient’s condition needed to be stabilized.When a team of general doctors and nephrologists was working to stabilize her health state, we also began the process of cleaning the maggots,” said Janakiram.

“Once her condition began to improve we realized that her facial bones that were closer to the brain were totally affected.However, the efforts made in by our team of experts in a couple of days brought a new chance of health to the patient” he added.

Patients who suffer from mucormycosis experience they don’t feel the pain.Houseflies had invaded her nose and stored eggs inside.

When the eggs were laid and turned into larvae, which are referred to as maggots.It can infiltrate the brain, causing meningitis.explained the doctors.
