Afif Hossain, Anamul Haque help Bangladesh win final ODI, deny Zimbabwe series sweep

Harare Aug 11, : Unbeaten 85 from Afif Hossain and 76 Anamul Haque’s 85 helped Bangladesh to a 105-run win against Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI played at Harare Sports Club.
After Bangladesh reached the score 256/9, Zimbabwe were bowled out for just 150 in 32.2 overs, despite a record-breaking 68-run partnership for the final wicket that was shared between Richard Ngarava and Victor Nyauchi.However, Zimbabwe had won their ODI series with the score of 2-1.Bangladesh finished their tour on a high note but that didn’t smooth over the fact that they were beaten in both the T20I and ODI series.

Captain Tamim Iqbal and Anamul put on 41 in the opening stnad, but in the 9th over, they were confused over a possible single .Tamim was dismissed for 19.Najmul Hossain and Mushfiqur were out in a flash, but without scoring, making the score 47-3.

Mahmudullah arrived in to begin cautiously and the score slowly climbed for a while before Anamul hit his fifty from 48 balls.Both batters were playing more aggressively with Anamul in particularly focus to score boundaries.

He was looking very dangerous when Luke Jongwe sent him a great delivery just outside the off stump, which he put in a Madande in the middle of the stumps.He had made 77 runs off 74 balls with six sixes and four fours.

Mahmudullah and Afif were a great team together, but they never really dominated the bowlers until Ngarava returned and with his first ball, he smashed Mahmudullah and sent Afif back to the dressing room for 39 balls out of 69.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 14 before Sikander Raza trapped him lbw.Afif soon hit fifty from 58 balls and opened the way to Ngarava for six and four off consecutive deliveries.However, he was unable to beat Taijul Islam to an untimely run out.Hasan Mahmud was caught without scoring , and Mustafizur Rahman was ejected from the field after attempting to steal a bye.

The last player Ebadot Hossain in, Afif did his best to improve the score however only 12 runs were scored off an unsteady last over by Jongwe and the final score was 256-9.Afif was able to finish with 85 runs not out of 80 balls with one six and six fours.Evans was able to score 253 runs in eight overs, and Jongwe 238 in six overs.

Hasan Mahmud gave Bangladesh early breakthrough when Takudzwanashe Kaitano was caught lbw.The next ball, Mehidy saw Tadiwanashe Marumani running down the pitch, but he was unable to get the ball.It struck the stump of his off.

Innocent Kaia and Madhevere played very cautiously for the first three overs, but Ebadot made a stunning delivery that fell over the shoulder of Madhevere’s bat, and was caught at the point.Ebadot was then able to bowl a yorker swinging and Raza could only slice the ball into his stumps.

Kaia determinedly hit Hasan for two consecutive fours.

However, when the left-arm spinner Taijul was introduced, he failed to read his arm ball and became stuck lbw for 10, and left Zimbabwe struggling to make 31-5.

Tony Munyonga hit a few blows before he was dismissed for 49.Madande and Jongwe engaged in a battle for the seventh wicket forming the score of 28 in seven overs, before the second was caught easily at the cover for 15.

Madande quickly followed, after he hit a skyed pull off Mustafizur but was taken for 24 off 45 balls.Three balls later, Evans skyed another ball that came from the same bowler, only to be caught at the point for two.

Ngarava was a fighter and smashed two leg-side fours as well as six in an over off Mehidy.He as well as Nyauchi kept fans entertained with their skillful playing.Their heroic effort was ended at 151 when Nyauchi who was retreating to run, was blasted out by Mustafizur for 26 runs.

Ngarava was unbeaten for 34 from 26 balls with the pair of six fours and a six.Their total of 68 is an all-time Zimbabwe record for the most recent wicket in ODIs and beats the 60 that was scored by Shingi Masakadza and Ian Nicolson against Ireland in Harare in 2010-11.Mustafizur was the bowler with the highest success of the game, taking 4-17 runs and Ebadot and Taijul racked up two wickets each.
