New Delhi, Aug 6 : With Reliance Jio taking the premium 700MHz in all 22 telecom zones or circles and zones, the company is ready to offer its customers more speedier and effective indoor coverage in cities with high population levels like Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune and Chennai to attract more customers.The spectrum of 700 MHz is able to give 6-10 kilometers of signal coverage with one tower.
It is an excellent foundation for providing 5G.
The 700 MHz band was the subject of bids of around Rs 39,270 crore.The auction was led by Reliance Jio.
The allocation of the 700 MHz band is one of the most effective solutions for addressing the challenges of the mobile data explosion that regulators and the telecom industry looking for additional spectrum to support the construction of new networks for mobile broadband and capacity.
Pulkit Pandey Principal Analyst, Gartner told IANS that the increased interest in the 700 MHz band of telecom companies “indicates that the communications service providers (CSPs) are looking to improve indoor coverage, in which the 700 MHz band is likely to play a key role”.
“This band may also assist CSPs to offer standalone 5G services and also introduce network cutting.
This could be a signal for CSPs seeking to begin working on 5G that is standalone,” Pandey added.
The availability of sought-after 700MHz spectrum will result in Jio needs to upgrade only 1 lakh of 3.5 lakh towers in order to meet 80 percent of the 5G potential in India and the rest of the world, while competitors must upgrade a larger amount of towers.
The 5G technology will be at a speed 10 times faster that 4G, and 30 times faster that 3G, which will allow millions to experience an experience they’ve that has never been seen before.
Jio announced that its exclusive 700 spectrum makes it the sole provider offering “true 5G” services across the nation.

In the near future, with a bigger ambition and more determination, Jio is set to lead India’s transition into the 5G age,” said Akash Ambani Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm.
According to chipmaker Qualcomm the 700MHz spectrum can deliver over 300 Mbps of download speeds in test conditions.
The 700 MHz band can assist Jio to provide 5G SA (standalone) services to enterprises.
“An operator with sub-Ghz spectrum in its 5G layer may gain between 200 and 300 basis point (2-3 percent) of total subscriber market and a greater amount (10 percent market share increase) in comparison to an operator who has no sub-Ghz spectrum layer in its rollout of 5G,” According to a white paper from the global consultancy firm Analysys Mason.
Sub-Ghz bands (usually in the range of 700Mhz and 900Mhz) are perfect for wireless applications.They allow for long distances and use less power.
“Jio is ready to roll out 5G in the shortest amount of time due to the strength of its extensive fibre coverage as well as its the all-IP infrastructure with no old infrastructure, an in-house 5G platform and strong partnerships with the global technology ecosystem” said the company.
