During the budget, Nirmala Sitharaman announced that she would soon be launching an e-Passport in India.Earlier, Foreign Secretary Sanjay Bhattacharya had announced on Twitter that India would soon introduce e-passports with secure biometric data.
He said the e-passports meet the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
E-passports offer the same benefit as traditional passports.
However, Sitharaman said in his budget speech that he would design them with embedded chips and futuristic technology.However, e-passports contain microchips.
Furthermore they are made to high security standards without any chance of tampering or counterfeiting.India currently only offers printed passports to customers.
But e-passports are available in other countries, including the US, UK and Germany.
Bhattacharya had earlier revealed that the e-passport contained secure biometric data.
It is said to be used worldwide, and to help those traveling abroad.The passport will be manufactured at the India Security Press in Nashik.The Foreign Minister said that he was in talks with the India Security Press regarding microchips.“We consider the manufacture of e-passports a top priority, so we will be creating a new passport booklet in the near future with better security features.The e-passport will have the same functionality as the current passport, but is much safer than a traditional passport because the seal on the e-passport” Consists of an electronic chip containing similar information.The microchip contains information such as the passport holder’s name, date of birth and other details.
The e-passport is very useful for travelers as it is no longer necessary to stand in long queues in front of the migration counter.The e-passport can be scanned at the immigration counter in minutes rather than physical verification.
It is very difficult to steal data recorded on a microchip.Due to this uniqueness there is no possibility of making fake passports.
The e-passport contains an embedded chip containing personal information.It contains data from 30 international tours.
The chip contains information such as biometric data such as fingerprints.According to reports, if anyone tries to tamper with the chip it will not work.
