Berlin, 29 December : .Germany’s power supply is safe despite Germany continuing its nuclear withdrawal, Robert Habeck, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, said.

These shutdowns will take place by 2022.

The Ministry for Economic Affairs (BMWi), stated that “This will complete an important step of the nuclear-phase-out agreement in 2011, and significantly improve nuclear safety in the country.”

Habeck stated that “Security in Germany’s supply continues to be assured.”

After the Fukushima catastrophe in 2011, Angela Merkel, the former German Chancellor, declared a nuclear moratorium. This included a safety inspection for all nuclear power stations.

Germany was able to accelerate its transition away from nuclear energy.

BMWi stated that this did not affect the reliability of power supply.

It “has improved in recent years, and is very high according to international standards”.

It will continue at the same high level with nuclear phase-out.

Habeck also stressed the importance of “systematically driving forward the transformation in our energy supply.” For aligning industry and economy with climate neutrality, and creating sustainable prosperity, a secure supply of electricity can be a crucial prerequisite.

The Federal Statistical Office reported that almost 57% of the electricity produced in Germany for the third quarter 2021 came from traditional energy sources like coal, natural gas, and nuclear.
