He admits that he was skeptical about making a film for people above Vindhyas.
Sukumar was able to see the film’s success in Hindi market and is mentally ready for the megaphone to play more Hindi films.
Surprisingly, Sukumar was helped by S.S.Rajamouli, a ace director of ‘Bahubali, which was able to break through his hesitation.
“I thought that viewers may view south-based movies via satellite channels and YouTube.
But I did not believe Hindi audiences would go to the cinemas to see them.Rajamouli garu found out about me and called me.It’s a great package.Your story is mine.It will definitely work.We’ll watch what happens.He agreed.Sukumar recalls, “Then I said okay.”
The film’s shooting began in March 2020.However, the Lockdown due to Covid forced the production to be halted.
Although filming resumed in December with nearly the entire cast affected by Covid production was halted again in spurts.
Sukumar believes that the positive package in ‘Pushpa The Rise’ gives it enough traction to compete with other high-profile releases like ’83.
I want to provide full entertainment.You can feel all the emotions: love, fun, fights and everything in between.Because we need to appeal to all viewers, it is called a commercial movie.The director must feel superhuman when writing a commercial story.
Hollywood films are all about love stories, thrillers, and horrors.You can’t mix genres.
You will see 5-6 genres mixing together and giving one element.This is a huge exercise in story writing.He explains, “That’s why I believe the audience was attracted to it.”
Sukumar never thought of making a second movie.He decided that the second part would be a better idea after editing.
“Around this time, we were editing this movie.”Bahubali 2” and “KGF” were both playing.Between these two movies, we started editing.When I began editing, there was a pandemic.It’s just too much and the story can’t be kept going for so long, I thought.After seeing “Bahubali 2” and “KGF”, even film producers felt more confident.”Pushpa” was a second instalment.
Another surprise is the cinematography by Miroslaw Kuba Brozek from Poland.Sukumar was unable to find his usual cinematographer Ratnavelu for other projects.
He also wanted to see the film with a fresh set of eyes, not only because Ratnavelu was busy but because Sukumar needed a different perspective on the rural, rustic and rustic look he had in mind.Despite not being fluent in English, they used sign language to communicate on set.
He’s Polish.”He doesn’t know English.” I don’t speak English.Sign language is used to communicate between us.He doesn’t speak English properly, I don’t.We managed to coordinate and he is an incredible cinematographer.
Although he can speak Telugu when the scene is in front, he does not know the length of it.His grasp of the scene is similar.Instinct.”
Sukumar has signed off for the shooting of ‘Pushpa The Rule’, which is scheduled to start in March.
