Gandhinagar : , 27 Dec 2007 Union Minister of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry and Dairying ParshottamRupala said Lord Krishna was popularized as “Dwarkadhish”, only after he became a part Gujarat.He spoke at the Vishwa Gujarati Samaj’s (VGS), a program to honor prominent Gujarati community members on Sunday.
The Gujarati community is a special one, with rich traditions and a past that dates back to the time of mythology.Krishna may be called Kanhaiya or Krishna, but Dwarkadhish was only given to him after he arrived in Gujarat.
Rupala presented historian Rizwan Qadri the “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Vishwa Pratibha Award” and Rs 2.50 Lakh in cash to him for his work on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Ironman of India.The saints of Swaminarayan in Maninagar, Ahmedabad inspired Dr Qadri’s research work on the Sardar.Dr Qadri continued to study and research.This is an historic Gujarati moment.Rupala said that exploring Sardar Patel’s extraordinary personality is similar to exploring the ocean.
In addition to Dr Qadri’s award, VGS presented Mathurbhai Savani (surat-based diamant firm owner) with the Shri Kanjibhai Desai Gujarat Pratibha Award.The prize money was Rs 1 lakh.
Another awardee was Delhi Gujarat Samaj.This was VGS’s Delhi Chapter.It was also awarded the ‘Sreshth Gujarati Samaj Award.’ The awardee received Rs 1 lakh in recognition of its contribution over the past 125 years.
The history of the Delhi Gujarati Samaj is itself a great honour.He said that he was glad to hear that the institution had maintained the Gujarati culture’s decorum in the capital over the years.
Another recipient was Dr R.K.Patel (cardiologist, UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology honorary director).Patel received the award for his outstanding contribution to Covid-19.
Rupala spoke out about the contribution of Dr R.K.Patel to Gujarat.He said that “if there’s a hospital which can compete with corporate hospitals, it is the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.” The hospital’s current status as having the highest healthcare standards is due to Dr Patel, and other efforts.
Rupala spoke out about Gujarati culture, heritage and history.He said that “the ancient heritage, right from the time Narsinh Mehta, continued to bring glory and honor to the state, and was maintained in the prevailing circumstances by Dayanand Saraswati Mahraj.”
He spoke out about the Swaminarayan Sect.”If there is any institution that can bring glory to temple structures in the world, it’s the Swaminarayan Sect.”
He also discussed Gujarati political leadership.When you think about freedom, the Gujaratis were at the forefront of the struggle.Sardar and Gandhi led India towards independence.
The journey to growth was continued by Gujarat under Dr Jivraj Mehta.Today, the state has been called the “growth engine” of India, Rupala stated.
Gujaratis have a reputation for being the most successful business people.Surat’s diamond business dominates the global market.Surat controls eighty percent of the global diamond industry.Morbi leads the way in ceramic manufacturing and clock manufacturing.Rupala stated that the ceramics of Morbi are now in competition with China.
The former president of VGS was Krishnakant Vakhariya (Gujarati High Court Advocate).
He received a special award for his contributions to VGS’s success for almost three decades.
Following the presentation of the award and receiving the cash prize, Dr Qadri stated that all prize money exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh would be used for further research on Sardar.Savani, who won Rs 1 lakh in prize money, supported this.
It is an honor to be associated with Sardar Saheb.It is a shame that so much of our culture and heritage is being lost and sold at flea markets.
Chagan Jadhav, an unknown artist, painted the Dandi March.I discovered it at the Ahmedabad Sunday flea market.Swami Maharajji encouraged me to record this, and the “Unseen Drawings of Dandi March” was published.”Dr Qadri said that Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, saw this publication and it inspired Aazadi Ka Amrit mahotsav.”
President C.K.said that the VGS has felicitated prominent Gujarati figures every year for the past 17 year, with the exception of last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.Patel.
