Chennai, December 14, : , The Madras High Court rejected Tuesday’s Public Interest Litigation.(PIL) aimed at challenging internal elections in AIADMK for the election of party coordinators and joint coordinators. J.Jayachandran (a member of the party) filed the PIL citing the fact that the interparty election was conducted in an arbitrary fashion, allowing O.Paneerselvam to submit nominations for the elections.
First Madras High Court bench, which included Justice P.D.and Acting Chief Justice Munishwar Nhandari.Adikesavalu ruled that the Election Commission of India has no role in inter-party elections and therefore, there were no orders to be made regarding Adikesavalu’s plea.
Jayachandran the petitioner wanted to stop the court from publishing the results until the case was resolved.
Jayachandran also wanted the Madras High Court to direct the Election Commission not to accord sanction to the newly created posts of coordinator and joint coordinator in the party.
It may be noted that former Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, O.Panneerselvam and Edappadi K.Palaniswami, are leading the party as Coordinator and Joint Coordinator respectively. This was challenged through a PIL by the petitioner which was promptly dismissed by the court.
