Microsoft supercomputer runs Linux and is among the 10 fastest machines

New Delhi, November 18th, 2008 : .

A Microsoft Azure supercomputer that runs on Linux, not Windows, has reached the top of the list for fastest machines in the world.Japans Fugaku supercomputer surpassed all competitors once moreThe Voyager EUS2 Microsoft Azure system was No.10 in the TOP500 annual lists 58th edition. The TOP500 List was created to monitor the fastest supercomputers around the globe.

It is based on High Performance Linpack (HPL) benchmark. These machines are being tracked on an ongoing basis two times per year.Voyager EUS2 is based on an AMD EPYC CPU with 48 cores at 2.45GHz and an NVIDIA GPU of 80GB.Voyager uses an Mellanox HDR infiniband to transfer data.TOP500 stated in a statement that it achieved benchmark speeds of 30.05 Petaflops per second.Microsofts supercomputer still trails Chinas Tianhe-2A supercomputer and the US Department of Energy-based Summit supercomputer.

However, it is the largest cloud provider to have a supercomputer in the top 10.Fugaku still holds the position of No.1 that it was first awarded in June 2020.Summit is an IBM-built system located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee (US), which remains the fastest in America and the No.2 spot in the world.Sierra is a system located at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, USA.Its at No.3.It was not surprising that the top two systems on the list were from the US and China.Chinas number of systems dropped to 186, while the US grew from 123 to 150 machines.na #Microsoft #supercomputer #Linux #fastest #Delhi.
