Plea in SC claims Mewat’s Hindus in ‘miserable condition’

New Delhi, Oct 29 : A plea has been moved in the Supreme Court claiming that the situation of Hindus, including women and girls, in Haryanas Mewat area has become "extremely miserable" and their survival has "become difficult".

The plea by a group of lawyers, moved through advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, alleged that the fundamental rights of Hindus residing in Mewat-Nuh is "being continuously eroded" by members of Muslim community "who are in a dominating position".

"The state government as well as district administration and local police have failed to exercise the powers vested in them by law due to which the life and liberty of every Hindu and particularly the women and Dalits is in jeopardy.," it alleged.

The plea claimed that Muslims, under the patronage of Tablighi Jamaat, have gradually increased their strength and now the position is that Hindu population is decreasing, coming down from 20 per cent to 10-11 per cent.Alleging that a number of Hindus have been "forcibly converted to Islam" and "a number of women and minor girls have been abducted and raped", the plea sought direction from the top court to constitute a special investigating team consisting of CBI and NIA personnel under the supervision of retired Supreme Court judge to probe the issue of "forceful conversion" of Hindu residents and "forceful and illegal execution of sale deeds" of Hindus properties.

The plea also alleged that of 431 villages in Mewat-Nuh, "103 villages have become totally devoid of Hindus and in 82 villages, only 4-5 Hindu families are left".
