WHO: Vaccine Nationalism will prolong the Pandemic

Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus indirectly hints USA to support WHO’s COVAX facility.

We all know every nation is in a race to prepare its vaccine.

Earlier Russia has developed its World’s first-ever vaccine for Covid-19 without conducting phase 3 trials.It is estimated that nearly 125 new vaccines are under different stages of development in almost 48 countries.

Briefing about this, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that Vaccine Nationalism will prolong the pandemic and underlines the urgency of speechifying non-contagious diseases and their risk factor.In a video message, Tedros pointed out that “In the coming months we all hope to have good news about a vaccine for Covid-19.

But if and when we have an effective vaccine, we must also use it effectively.But initially, when supply is limited, priority must be given to vaccinating essential workers and those at risk including older people and those with underlying conditions.

In other words, the priority must be to vaccinate some people in all countries, rather than all people in some countries.This is not just a moral imperative and a public imperative, it’s also an economic imperative.

” Indirectly hinting about USA backing out from COVAX facility and making its vaccine, Tedros reiterated that every nation should come forward to join in COVAX facility.He concluded that “vaccine nationalism will prolong the pandemic, not shorten it.”.
