The Backward Classes Students Association demanded the state government to increase intake in BC government residential schools across the state as large number of BC students were not getting seats due to availability of limited seats in these schools.
Association general secretary Vemula Ramakrishna said that due to the merit-based selection process adopted by the government to select students, BC students who are financially-weak and studied in government schools were losing seats to others in residential schools.
He demanded the state government to sanction additional sections in all BC residential schools to ensure seats for all eligible BC students who submit applications.Ramakrishna said that BC residential schools offer free education from Class V and majority of the BC students who are getting seats in these schools based on merit are those who studied in private schools till Class IV.Ramakrishna had earlier said that statehood was achieved after the sacrifices of 1,200 students but after the state was created the BRS destroyed the education sector. The BRS government had spent crores to construct the Secretariat, collectorates and camp offices for the CM and MLAs but had failed to construct welfare hostels.
