Sheikh Hasina encourages the biz community invest in R&D and expand their business

By Sumi KhaDhaka : January 1, 2017 - The Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called on the business community Saturday to make investments in research and develop to determine the products demand, quality, and product specifications to grow their businesses at home as well as abroad.Additionally, the Prime Minister asked business leaders to look for new markets and diversify their products in order to export Bangladeshi goods.

Research is what I always emphasize.Research is also important in commerce and trade.

It is necessary to conduct research in order to identify the demand for the product and determine its quality," Hasina stated at the opening of the 26th Dhaka International Trade Fair.Bangladeshs GDP has risen to 8 percent, however, it is now slightly lower.

"I believe that we can overcome all of the obstacles," Hasina stated as she thanked everyone involved for all their efforts in running the economy through the pandemic.Then she briefly described the steps taken by her government and the stimulus packages that were put in place to help keep the economy moving.

Hasina mentioned, as well that technology is now a mainstream era in the modern world.She said, "Keeping our eyes on that, Ive made a move in order to create skilled manpower so we dont fall behind," Sheikh Hasina attended the fair from Ganabhaban, her official residence.

For the sake of maintaining the nations image, the Prime Minister asked businessmen to keep and increase the quality of export products.She said, "You have to make your brand and go forward.

" She spoke about governments economic diplomacy steps and said that the government had completed the survey to sign PTA, FTA, or other forms of business agreements with 23 countries.This is in an effort to increase trade and commerce between Bangladeshi companies.

Hasina said that the economy of the country did not become completely stagnant during the Covid-19 epidemic, as was the case in other countries.The function was jointly organized by the Commerce Ministry (Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi) and the Export Promotion Bureau(EPB).

Tapan Kanti, Commerce Secretary and President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FBCCI), Md Jashim Uddin and A.H.M.Vice-President of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), A.H.M.Ahsan also addressed the audience.According to Hasina, as the countrys economy has grown significantly, so is the demand for local products.

The business community was asked to make agricultural products and look at food processing.She said that during the pandemic food product demand was increasing in several countries, and it will not slow down.

He also stressed the importance of improving quality and standards in export products and determining the global demand for different products.Hasina stated, "You have to discover new countries and understand their product requirements.
