Either go to jail or pay Rs 1 fine says Supreme Court to Prashant Bhushan.
He had been held guilty of criminal contempt on August 14 for his derogatory comments on Judiciary.On August 25, a bench consisting of Justices Arun Mishra, BR Gavai and Krishna Murari had asked Prashant Bhushan to apologise for his negative remarks on Indian Judicial system.
On Monday, before delivering the final verdict, the bench has given 30 minutes for Prashant Bhushan to apologise, but he was reluctant.Hence, the supremo has ordered him to pay either a penalty of Rs 1 or go to jail for 3 months.
The final verdict also states that if Prashanth Bhushan reluctant to pay the fine he has to be debarred from practice for 3 years.The Supreme Court concluded its verdict saying “Freedom of expression is there, but rights of others should also be respected”..
