Odisha: ASI, Home Guard held on sexual abuse charges

Bhubaneswar, Oct 17 : An Assistant Sub Inspector and a Home guard deployed at the same police station in Odishas Mayurbhanj district have been arrested on Tuesday on charges of rape in two separate cases.

Based on the complaint lodged by the minor victims aunt, police apprehended the accused, ASI, Anand Chandra Majhi of Jamda Police Station, by registering a case under Section 6 of the POCSO act.

The victims aunt alleged that Majhi sexually abused and reportedly impregnated the minor who was working in the accused persons house as a domestic help.

"After the death of his first wife two years ago, Majhi remarried the minor whose father died recently.

She had earlier lost her mother too, several years ago.The marriage was not legal as the girl is a minor so he was arrested over the allegations of her aunt," said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, the accused home guard, Debananda Patra, working at the same police station has been arrested in connection with a case registered at Jamda police station.

Many innocent tribals of Jamda area and the neighbouring Jharkhand often came to Patra who used to cure ailments by practicing black magic.

"Recently, a person from Jharkhand contacted Patra for the treatment of his ailing mother.

Meanwhile, Patra told the person that his mother could be cured through some special ritual and he required a virgin girl to perform the ritual.Accordingly, the man came along with his niece who was allegedly raped by Patra on the pretext of the ritual on October 11," claimed police sources.
