Japanese Communist Party appoints first-ever female chairperson

Tokyo, Jan 18 : The Japanese Communist Party (JCP) on Thursday decided to appoint incumbent policy chief Tomoko Tamura as the new chairperson, marking the first female head in the partys century-long history.

The JCP leadership change was seen as part of the partys broader strategy to promote gender diversity and facilitate a generational shift of its top leaders, according to local reports.

The reports noted that the JCP aims to leverage these changes to expand its political influence and appeal to a wider demographic.
