Gudumba Shankar Re-Release After 19 Years Gets Poor Response, Here’s Why

The Telugu film "Gudumba Shankar" achieved significant success upon its original release.

Directed by Veera Shankar and starring Pawan Kalyan and Meera Jasmine in leading roles, with Ashish Vidyarthi portraying the antagonist, this movie captivated and delighted audiences.

Originally released on September 10, 2004, it made a mark in cinema history.Surprisingly, after nearly two decades, "Gudumba Shankar" was reintroduced to the audience through a re-release.

Initially, the re-release was scheduled for August 31, 2023, but it was later postponed and premiered on September 2, coinciding with Pawan Kalyans birthday. While there was excitement among the audience during the pre-booking phase, the film struggled to perform well after its re-release.

Several factors contributed to this, including limited theater availability, scheduling conflicts, and insufficient planning and management.Reports indicate that "Gudumba Shankar" managed to earn around Rs 1 crore in the Nizam region and had a gross collection of three crores overall.

Unfortunately, it couldnt make the impact it had hoped for due to stiff competition from other newly released films, like Vijay Deverakondas "Kushi," which received more screen time and show slots.Fans of Pawan Kalyan and Meera Jasmine celebrated the re-release, with Meera Jasmine herself sharing nostalgic pictures from the films sets on social media.

She also expressed gratitude to her supporters for their unwavering backing and acknowledged that "Gudumba Shankar" played a pivotal role in shaping her career as an artist.Interestingly, Meera Jasmine recently announced her comeback to the industry after nearly a decade.

She will not only act in an upcoming film but also make her directorial debut. The movie will reunite her with R Madhavan, her co-star from "Ayitha Ezhuthu" in 2004.

This yet-to-be-titled project will also feature Nayanthara and Siddharth in significant roles and is slated for a 2024 release. It will be presented in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
