China conducts military exercises around Taiwan at ‘for the moment’

Beijing 11 August : Chinas military drills in Taiwan are "successfully" finished for "the for the moment" the eastern command of the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) announced, easing a situation which had heightened fears over the threat of an armed conflict.

However, any changes in the current situation in the Taiwan Strait would continue to be closely monitored as well as "regular patrols" are scheduled.Training for military and other preparations will continue The PLA command stated and added that it will "resolutely defend" Chinas sovereignty as well as territorial integrity.

The MAC clarified that the essence of the status in the present is that Taiwan insists that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are not subordinate to each other .Taiwan is opposed to the concept of "One Country Two Systems" that Beijing used to bring Hong Kong back under its control.The Council demanded Beijing to recognize Taiwans constitutional system, which protects freedom and democracy and further urged Beijing not to infringe on Taiwans sovereignty.

The Council also urged all democratic partners in the world to continue to stand with Taiwan.The Chinese leadership has a policy of denying official contact with other nations with Taiwan since it regards Taiwan as an integral part of its own territory.

Taiwan however has long regarded itself as an independent country.
