Akhil Akkinenis Agent, a spy action thriller, released in theatres in April 2023 amid high expectations.
However, the film turned out to be a huge disappointment for the fans and the critics alike.
The film failed to impress the audience with its weak script, poor execution and lacklustre performances.The film also bombed at the box office, collecting only around Rs 10 crore in India, while it was made on a whopping budget of Rs 70-80 crore.
The films dismal performance prompted the producer Anil Sunkara and the lead actor Akhil Akkineni to issue an apology to the viewers, admitting that they started the production without a proper script.They also promised to work harder and deliver better films in the future.
Despite being a flop, Agent still generated some curiosity among the viewers who missed it in theatres and wanted to watch it on OTT platforms.The film was initially supposed to stream on Sony LIV from May 2023, but it got delayed due to various reasons.
Some reports suggested that the makers were editing the film to make it more appealing for the OTT audience, but Sunkara denied this and blamed Sony LIV for the delay.Finally, after months of waiting, Agent is all set to have its OTT premiere on Sony LIV from September 29, 2023.
The streaming platform announced this news on its official X account on Friday, with a tweet that read, "The wait is over! Brace yourself for the wild adrenaline rush! The Agent starring Mammotty and Akhil Akkineni will be streaming on Sony LIV from 29th Sept."
Agent was directed by Surender Reddy and written by Vakkantham Vamsi.The film stars Akhil Akkineni as Ramakrishna "Ricky" alias "Wild Saala", a young man who dreams of becoming a RAW agent.He gets recruited by RAW chief Colonel Mahadev alias "The Devil" (Mammootty), who assigns him a mission to infiltrate a terrorist organization called "The Syndicate", led by Dharma alias "The God" (Dino Morea).
The film also features Sakshi Vaidya as Vidya, an aspiring pilot training officer in NASA, who is Rickys love interest.Vikramjeet Virk, Denzil Smith and Sangay Tsheltrim play supporting roles.
