V.Muraleedharan was a senior BJP leader who is also Union Minister of State of External Affairs.

He strongly condemned Saturdays alleged Kerala government decision to refuse President Ram Nath Kovind an honorary D.Litt.According to the Union minister, the "decision" of the state government was a shame if it is true.

Ramesh Chennithala (a former leader of the Opposition in Kerala and a senior Congress leader) claimed that Governor Arif Mohammad Khan had recommended that President Ram Nath Kovind be conferred an honorary D.Litt by the state government.Muraleedharan, speaking to journalists at Thrissur said more information is needed about the D.Litt conferment by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.The Minister asked Chief Minister if the decision by the state government not to confer D.Litt to the President was made.This incident is an example of anti-Dalit government in Kerala, he said.

He also stated that it was shameful for the country and humiliated President.K.Surendran, chief of BJPs Kerala Unit, also strongly opposed the alleged state decision not to grant D.Litt to the President.He stated that it was important for the Chief Minister to disclose the details and inform the public about the event.
