Maha court refuses to grant bail to Narayan Rane, Union Minister (Lead).

By Quaid NajmSindhudurg, Maharashtra : December 30, 2012 - In a huge political setback to BJP lawmaker Nitesh Rane – the son Union MSME Minister Narayan Rane – a court in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg rejected his anticipation bail application on Thursday.

Advocate Sangram Desai stated that the Bombay High Court will be moved soon by the defendants after they have received a copy of the court order.

After a long legal battle with Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gat and his defense team, Shirishkumar V.Hande, District and Sessions Principal Judge, pronounced the bail rejection order.Nitesh Rane (39), who is now "incommunicado", was denied bail by Gotya Sawant and his co-accused.This case involved an assault.

Advocate Desai however said that it is wrong to call Nitesh Rane an "absconder".However, the Maharashtra Police will likely intensify their efforts to arrest him.Ranes family, one of the most prominent political clans on the coast Konkan, is now facing their second embarrassment within the last five months.The Union Minister was detained in high drama on August 24th, and then released on bail for the infamous "slap-slur” against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thckeray.

This sparked a huge row between the BJP government and the Maha Vikas Akhasi (MVA).The celebrations began shortly after the court verdict.Rane Jr., a man known for his bravado, had applied to the Sindhudurg Court for reliefs from any coercive actions against him.This was in response to an attempted murder case against Kankavli, which he is a political bastion.Santosh Parab, the complainant, said that he was on his bike when an SUV with no registration plates knocked it down.

A person then jumped out and attacked him, before speding off.Parab (44 years old) later complained to police that the attacker left before he could be heard saying, "We must inform Gotya sawant and Nitesh Rane".The Sindhudurg Police received the complaint and registered an FIR against Nitesh Rane, others, for attempt to kill, common intent etc.They also served them a notice.Rane Jr.responded shortly to the notice, and was interrogated by police for more than two hours on Saturday.Both the Rane family as well as the BJP claim that this entire matter is fabricated to politically influence the election to the board directors of the district banking.

These elections were to be held on Thursday.Nitesh Rane, who was pleading bail, stated that he was currently canvassing candidates for the BJP in the districts bank elections and that any coercive action could affect his work.

He assured that he would continue to be available to the police for any investigations.However, in the last few days he became "incommunicado", with his phone turned off and his aides denying any knowledge of his whereabouts.

Even though the police were looking for him, The Maharashtra Police served notice to Union Minister Narayan Rane on December 29 and asked him to participate in the investigation.However, he declined to do so but said he would be open to a video conference call with investigators.
