IMD: Southern states receive over 100% more rains in November

The southern states that have been experiencing excessive rains for over ten days have recorded record rainfall in November.

Andhra Pradesh received 156 percent excess rains, Kerala saw 148 per cent departure and Tamil Nadu saw a 115per cent departure, IMD data showed FridayData from the India Meteorological Department has shown that Karnataka received up to 292 percent more rainfall in a single month.It is not just the northeast monsoon which is bringing these torrential rains that cause massive floods and property damage.

The November rains in Karnataka are more than any other state.This is because, except for some areas of southern Karnatakas, the major rainfall months for other parts of the country are the southwest monsoons of June to September.

The northeast monsoon brings rain to South Karnataka and Kerala, Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Telangana.IMD parlance refers to a departure as an increase or decrease (here rise) in the average temperature/rainfall for the given time period, based on 30 years records.D.S., the IMDs Long-Range Forecast head, said: Pai stated that there was one cyclonic thunderstorm and then, one by one, there were two depressions and low pressure systems.This is because of the easterly winds.

This has brought in more rains that normal.Similar conditions were last seen in November 2015, when Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu experienced similar heavy rains.

The IMD data shows that the November excess rainfall in Andhra Pradesh (156 percent departure), Kerala (18% departure), Tamil Nadu (1115 percent departure) and Karnataka (292per cent departure), drops to 37 percent, 112 percent, 70 percent, and 104 percent for the NE Monsoon season (October 1 through November 26).The IMD still has four days to go in November and has forecast isolated very heavy rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal until November 29.It also predicted very heavy rainfalls over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh on November 28-29.niv/v #Southern #receive #November #Telangana #AndhraPradesh #Delhi #Chennai #Tamil #Kollywood #Kerala #Malayalam #Mollywood.
