“Farmers have the right to protest, but no one can make law.”

New Delhi, Nov 24, : Rakesh Asthana, Delhi Police Commissioner, said Wednesday that farmers have a democratic right to protest but that no one should be allowed to make laws.

"The farmers agitation is ongoing for a long period.

Farmers have been allowed to demonstrate at Jantar Mantar since I joined [as Commissioner].During an event at the Indian Womens Press Corps, (IWPC), the Commissioner stated that farmers have the democratic right to protest, but that no one can be allowed take law into their own hands.

" After a year of protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that three of the controversial farm laws would be repealed.Thousands of farmers still camp at Delhis borders, and many have died from heat, cold, and Covid.

Commissioner Asthana stated that Delhi Police is committed in maintaining law and order within the city.Asthana spoke out about the cases against farmers in relation to the January 26 violent protests.

He said, "We have investigated and some were charged." The union cabinet approved The Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021 on Wednesday.
