AP govt to issue short-term tenders to import coal, says energy secretary

The latest report by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) makes it clear that the countrys power plants are slowly recovering from the coal crisis.Coal shortages have intensified at 135 thermal power plants across the country since October 8.

With this, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In the letter, he urged PM Modi to take steps to alleviate the coal shortage in the state.

The vigilant central government issued several directives to the state government.The state government has almost successfully overcome the coal shortage and is continuously supplying power to consumers in the state without any power cuts, the Energy Department said.

Andhra Pradesh State Energy Secretary Nagulapalli Srikanth said that the power distribution companies were taking all possible measures to ensure continuous power supply in the state.Also, he said that the Andhra Pradesh state govt is providing power supply continuously even when many states were suffering from coal shortages.

Energy Secretary Nagulapalli Srikanth said the government had directed the respective authorities to issue short-term tenders to import coal from other countries.
