The revolutionary singer and lyricist Vangapandu Prasad Rao has passed away in Parvathipuram.

On Tuesday, the communist lead agitator Vangapandu Prasad Rao expired at his residence in Pedabondapalli, Parvathipuram, Vizianagaram district.

He is the founder of Jananatya Mandali established in 1972.With his revolutionary songs like Jajjenaka janare, eem pillado eldamostavaa, yantrametta nadustumdantee, ooda nuv vellipoke, he has Enlighted many tribal and villagers.

He had also worked in a movie ‘Ardharatri Swatanthryam’ and received Kalaratna award from the AP government.All in all, he sang nearly 300 songs which received high praise and translated into many languages.

Many known personalities mourned over the death of Vangapandu.Gaddar, who was closely associated with Vangapandu said that he is alive as a song in the people’s heart.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed his sorrow with a post stating… “The news has hurt me deeply.He is very close to me.He uplifted the Uttarandhra movement with his folklore songs.I extend my deepest condolences to Vangapandu family.”

In 2008, Vangapandu has received prestigious Bollimuntha Sivaramakrishna Sahitya Award for his great work in folklore.
