The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has shocked the AP government.NGT has accused the AP government of violating environmental permits in the construction of the Polavaram project.
Against this backdrop, the NGT has imposed a fine of Rs 120 crore.Also, the NGT fined the AP govt regarding the three other projects built without environmental permits.
The NGT has imposed Rs.73.6 crores for the Chintalapudi project, Rs.24.90 crores for the Pattiseema project, and Rs.24.56 crores for the Purushottama Patnam project.NGT ordered the fine to be paid within three months.
It also directed the CPCB to appoint a committee with AP PCB members on the utilization of the fine funds.Also, the NGT has complained to the NTT about environmental violations against the AP government in the past.
However, the AP government says that the three projects in Pattiseema, Chintalapudi and Purushottamapatnam are part of the Polavaram project.Projects were constructed to pump water through the Polavaram canals before the Polavaram was completed.
NGT received complaints against the AP govt that environmental permits had not been taken for these projects.NTT was outraged by these complaints.
NGT had earlier ruled that the three projects were illegal.However, the Union Ministry of Water Resources told NGT that the three projects were not a part of Polavaram.
