New Delhi, Aug 15 : The insular restriction on open source and cross-platform VLC media player’s website by the Indian government in India may be the result of an “China connection” as hackers with Beijing links has infiltrated VLC Media Player with a malware to hack into devices.
According to cyber-security researchers from Symantec Symantec, Symantec researchers have found that Cicada victims are located in India and the US, Canada, Israel, Hong Kong and several other countries.

In April the Cicada group attacked several countries, with a focus on notable victims.

Researchers at Symantec discovered that Chinese-based attackers utilized VLC Media Player to install malware on compromised devices.

The VLC Media Player has been blocked by the major internet service providers in the country.However the video streaming service is accessible via laptops or phones by using any VPN service.

The app is available for download on the Apple App store and Google Play store.

There’s no official statement from the government as of yet on the reason for why access to the VLC website is being restricted in the country.

VLC media player was created by the VideoLAN project.

VLC supports a variety of compression methods for video and audio and formats for files including DVD-Video Video CD and streaming protocols.

It can stream media through computer networks, and it can also convert multimedia files.
