Washington, Nov 25, : Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic space venture and charity fundraising platform Omaze announced that a mother-daughter duo from the Caribbean were the winners of a free suborbital flight. Keisha S., an Antigua-based health and energy coach and her daughter Barbuda have been awarded two free seats aboard Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unicorn spaceplan.The company announced Wednesday.
“Congratulations Keisha S., Antigua & Barbuda!” You’re going to space! The company tweeted.
Keisha stated that she has a lifelong passion for flying and a fascination about space.”This is truly a dream come to me,” she said in a statement.
She stated that she hopes to share this experience with her daughter “so we can inspire the next generation of dreams to follow their dreams.”
The sweepstakes began in July after Virgin Galactic’s historic Unity 22 mission.It attracted donations from 164.338 people all over the world in eight weeks to raise $1.7M in grants for Space for Humanity.
These anticipated grants from Charities Aid Foundation America, (CAF America), will enable Space for Humanity to transform perspectives and train potential candidates to ensure a space-inclusive future.
Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard Branson stated that the goal of Virgin Galactic is to “be able to give people from all ages and backgrounds equal space access, and in turn the opportunity to lead or inspire others back on Earth,” in the statement.
Keisha will join Virgin Galactic’s Future Astronaut group as the first person to come from the Caribbean islands.
The Future Astronaut community is a family of 700 people from over 60 countries.They are united by a common passion for adventure and the desire push the boundaries of humanity.
