Vinayak Mete’s death: Maharashtra CID to probe accident

Mumbai 17 August : After a chorus of complaints from different quarters that the Maharashtra government on Wednesday announced an CID investigation into the death of popular Maratha leader Vinayak Mete in a road accident on the 14th of August.
The Chief Minister has taken note of the incident The the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked the Director General of Police to take steps to conduct a CID investigation into the incident just three days ago.

Mete 52, the Mete, 52, president of the Shiv Sangram Party and a face of the Maratha protests just a few years ago was killed instantly as his SUV travelling from Beed via Pune to Mumbai was smashed into a vehicle in front of him on the Yeshwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the early hours of Sunday.

Then, Mete’s elderly mother and wife Jyoti and on Wednesday, his nephew Balasaheb Chavan, as well as several officials of the Maratha Kranti Morcha and other groups, raised doubts about the circumstances that led to the incident, including the alleged delay in getting medical assistance to him, and other aspects.

On Sunday the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde revealed an investigation into the accident with the police on highways, Raigad Police setting up teams of around half a dozen to investigate Mete’s death , which shocked the entire state.

Mete’s funeral rites were held in his home village in Beed on Monday with full state funeral honors however, the family of Mete and Maratha leaders kept asking questions about the road crash at about five a.m.the previous day.

In a press conference in Pune on Wednesday Mete’s nephew Chavan stated that, among others, the driver of the vehicle Eknath Kadam – one of the three drivers employed by Mete was providing contradictory answers on the incident to investigators and demanded a thorough investigation into the entire incident.

The driver was blamed who also sustained minor injuries for the crash Chavan claimed of not revealing the exact location of the crash despite numerous attempts, why was the vehicle wasn’t visible in the CCTV cameras as well as who was who was in regular contact with the driver via phone.
