New Delhi, Aug 23 : The Centre on Tuesday named Vikram K.Doraiswami, the current High Commissioner of Bangladesh as the new High Commissioner of India to the UK.He is scheduled to start his task in the near future.
Doraiswami began his career with the Indian Foreign Service in 1992.
Before being a part of the Indian government, he worked for one year as an editor.
He holds a Master’s degree in historical studies from the University of Delhi.
Following his training in the field in New Delhi from 1992-1993, Doraiswami was posted to the High Commission of India in Hong Kong in May 1994 as the Third Secretary.
He was assigned to the Embassy of India in Beijing in September 1996, where he worked for nearly four years.
When he returned to the Ministry of External Affairs in 2000, Doraiswami was appointed Deputy Chief of Protocol (Ceremonials).
In the following two years, he was assigned to the Prime Minister’s Office and later was appointed Private Secretary to the Prime Minister.
In the year 2006, Doraiswami was posted to the Permanent Mission of India to the UN in New York as Political Counsellor.Later, in October 2009, he was appointed India’s Consul General in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In July of 2011, Doraiswami returned to the Ministry of External Affairs, in which he was the Head of the Division of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
During this time, he was also Coordinator for the Fourth Summit meeting of BRICS in New Delhi in March 2012.
From October 2012 until October 2014, Doraiswami was Joint Secretary of the Americas Division of the MEA.
He was appointed the Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan in October 2014.
