PM Modi offers support to Vijayan for the K-Rail project

Thiruvananthapuram : , Dec 8 : .After facing huge opposition to what’s now billed by Pinarayi Vijayan as Kerala Chief Minister’s dream project – the Rs 60,000 crore Silver Line — K-Rail Project, Vijayan wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to ask for his personal intervention to grant sanction for the project.
If the project is completed, it will create a 529.45km corridor linking Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod.

Both the Congress and BJP-led political fronts have already stated their opposition to this project.Metroman E.Sreedharan stated that the proposed K-Rail project (Silver Line), as conceived, is completely against the interests and called it an idiotic proposal.

The Congress-led UDF has also protested against the project, claiming it is not feasible and that the final cost could exceed Rs 1 lakh crore.

Vijayan wrote to the Prime Minister stating that he has attached a report outlining the expected contributions of the Indian Railway System to his project.He also stated that this will not only benefit Kerala but also the nation, contributing both to the economy and the environment.

Vijayan also points out that the equity internal rate of return for the project is 13.55 percent without the land acquisition costs.This makes it viable according to the agreement between the Ministry of Railways of Kerala.

Vijayan spoke for over an hour last Tuesday in front of the Kerala Governor’s official residence.

He blamed the Centre as well as the Congress-led Opposition.Here, and a week later, Vijayan wrote to Modi asking for his intervention to end the project.
