Uttarakhand receives a second tranche in the amount of Rs 360.95 Cr for Jal Jeevan Mission

New Delhi, 28 Dec : .The Centre released Rs 360.95 Crore to Uttarakhand.This second tranche was intended for speedy implementation Jal Jeevan Mission.Uttarakhand will receive tap water supplies from 7.53 lakh households (49.60%).
The allocation of this amount is part the total allocation of Rs 1.443.80 crore in 2021-22.This is, in turn four times, the 2020-21 allocation.According to a Jal Shakti Mantralaya release, Rs 721.90 million was already distributed by the Centre in two tranches in 2020-21.Uttarakhand is planning to be a ‘Harghar Jal state’ by December 2022.

This will make Uttarakhand two years ahead the national goal of becoming ‘Harghar Jal.

Priority is given to providing tap water supply for all rural households in the country.Jal Jeevan Mission has been implemented in partnership with States since August 2019.

The state-level scheme sanctioning commission (SLSSC) has expedited the approval process for large multi-village drinking-water supply schemes.

In the last two months schemes worth Rs 714 Crore have been approved.They will benefit 58 000 homes across 846 villages in 11 Uttarakhand districts, and more than 3 lakh beneficiaries.

According to a Ministry of Jal Shakti, “This will greatly reduce the amount of work that women and children have to do every day in fetching water from faraway sources.”

Only 1.30 million (8.58%) rural households had access to water on August 15, 2019.This was at the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission.The state provided water connections to 62.2 lakh households (41%), in 28 months, despite lockdown disruptions and Covid19 pandemic.

As of today, 5.18 lakh households live in rural areas in the state.Only 7.53 lakh (49.50%) have access to water.Water supply works are ongoing to provide water supply for villages, despite adverse weather conditions and transportation challenges in some areas of this challenging terrain.

The state intends to connect 2.64 million households with tap water by 2021-22.Tap water has been connected to every household in 2,438 villages, and 620 blocks so far.
