Abuja, November 19, : , The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Nigeria and met President Muhammadu Buhari with some officials.They discussed the US’s interest and plans for the West African nation. According to a statement by Nigeria’s presidency, Buhari and Blinken met in Abuja for talks on issues such as regional security and climate.According to the statement, Blinken stated that while there are many challenges facing Nigeria and the United States, security and hope for improved partnerships is the common factor.
After a meeting via video with Buhari earlier this year, the top US diplomat praised Buhari’s contributions to climate protection, especially his participation at the recent COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.
Blinken, a Nigerian foreign minister, spoke at a press conference in Abuja with Geoffrey Onyeama on Thursday.
He highlighted a variety of areas where the US would be willing to continue cooperation with Nigeria.These include security, climate change and education.
The US also plans to work with Nigeria in critical infrastructure projects under USAID, according the Xinhua news agency.
Nigeria will mark the end of Blinken’s Africa trip, which began in Kenya on Wednesday and ends in Senegal late in the week.
