The travel ban was announced on November 29.It prohibited non-American citizens, who had traveled to South Africa or Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia within the 14 days preceding their arrival, from being allowed to enter the United States.

Munoz stated that the limitations “gave me time to understand” Omicron, a highly transmissible variant of Covid-19.It first appeared in Southern Africa, but quickly spread throughout the globe.

According to CDC data, it now accounts for over 70% of all new cases in the US.

He said that Omicron can still be defeated by boosting and getting fully vaccinated.
