US company Autonomy purchases EVs for $143 million via Hyundai, Kia

Seoul 10th August : US electric vehicle subscription company Autonomy will purchase 3,140 electric vehicles from Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia to expand its fleet of vehicles.
Autonomy has issued an order for the purchase of 1,640 electric vehicles from Hyundai and 1,500 electric vehicles from Kia in an agreement worth $143 million as reported by Yonhap news agency.

The purchase is part of Autonomy’s $1.2 billion plan to purchase 23,000 electric vehicles from 17 car makers as it seeks to diversify and expand its fleet of subscription vehicles beyond Tesla Motors, the company announced in an announcement.

“With every automaker going all-in on electric , and so many new and exciting products that will be on the market in the next six to 18 months We have placed an order for our fleet and are looking forward to expanding our subscription options,” said Scott Painter the chief executive officer and founder of Autonomy.

The 23,000-vehicle purchase is 1.2 percent of EVs predicted to be built in the US until the 2023’s end of 2023.

The Santa Monica California-based company started its EV subscription program in January.

It has an inventory of 1,000 electric vehicles which are all owned by Tesla.

Of the most recent purchase, Tesla clinched the largest order of $443 million, which is 8,300 EVs from Autonomy which was then General Motors Co.with 3,400 electric vehicles, Volkswagen with 2,200 EVs and Ford Motor with 1,800 EVs.
