Washington, 31 December : .The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has urged people not to travel on cruise ships, regardless of their vaccination status.
More Covid-19 cases have been linked with the Omicron variant. The Covid-19 Travel Health Notification level was updated to Level 4 from Level 3.The CDC stated that this is due to an increase in Omicron variant cases aboard cruise ships.
The agency stated that even fully-vaccinated travellers could be susceptible to spreading Covid-19 variants.
According to the CDC, “The virus responsible for Covid-19 can easily spread between people living in close quarters aboard ships and there is a high chance that you will get it on cruise ships even if your ship has been fully vaccinated.”
The agency stated that it is important for travelers with severe Covid-19-related illness to avoid traveling on cruise ships.This includes river cruises around the world, and regardless of their vaccination status.
CDC is currently monitoring 88 vessels for Covid-19-related outbreaks.
According to data published on Wednesday by Xinhua news agency, four other vessels are being closely monitored by CDC.
