US AID Mission Director lauds Telangana for increased forest cover

The United States Agency for International Development (US AID) Mission Project Director Veena Reddy has lauded the Telangana government for its notable work in restoring forests in the state.The Forest Plan 2.0 review meeting was held recently at Aranya Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Under the auspices of US AID, the Forest Plus 2.0 program was launched in each district of the states of Bihar and Kerala, including the Medak district of Telangana.The project aims to restore forests and conserve biodiversity with the participation of local people to combat geographical changes.

Chief of Forest Conservation (COMPA), Nodal Officer Lokesh Jaiswal explained the progress of forests in Medak district through a PowerPoint presentation.Lokesh Jaiswal demanded that a command and control centre be set up in the state on behalf of the US AID.

In a recent press release, the USAID project Director Veena Reddy said, “USAID’s partnership with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh spans many decades.My visit to the region is to affirm USAID’s commitment to collaborate with the government and people of the region to help address critical local development challenges, from health systems strengthening to safe water and sanitation to sustainable forest management.As I was born in Andhra Pradesh, I am also personally impressed to see the progress the region continues to make and especially excited to help support, as the USAID Mission Director to India, its continued success.”
