Pratapgarh (Uttar Pradesh) 9 Aug : Raja Uday Pratap Singh, father of the former Uttar Pradesh Minister and strongman Raghuraj Pratap Singh a.k.a.Raja Bhaiya, will be released from house arrest on Tuesday night according to a government official. Pratapgarh District Magistrate Nitin Bansal has said that Uday Pratap will be released from house arrest when Moharram is completed.
“We have been able to save the situation after talking to all segments of the population in the area.
Because he refused to work with us, we placed the man under house arrest in order to deter any potential threat to law and law and order,” he added.
The 89-year-old former Raja Uday Pratap Singh had been sitting on a dharna since last week to protest against the construction of an unofficial gate for the Muslim community in the Pratapgarh area to celebrate Moharram.
Raja Bhaiya’s father was conducting a “bhandara” in the region — Sheikhpur Ashik village in Kunda development block of Pratapgarh district for the last few years.
Because of Covid-19, the bhandara was unable to not be held over the past two years.
This year when he began to prepare for the celebration, the construction of the Moharram gate was a source of irritation for him.
On the 4th of August he took a seat on a Dharna at the headquarters of the Tehsil and the local shopkeepers shut their shutters in solidarity towards the Raja.
Police sources have said they believe that they believe that the Muslim community has set up the gates in the past however, Uday Pratap claimed that the custom had to be changed following the state government banned the use of public places of worship.
Pratapgarh Police Superintendent of Police Satpal Antil, said the state administration and police will soon develop with standards operating procedures to ensure that peace and harmony in the community is maintained in the future.
