Lucknow, Nov 26th : The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an alert about the new Covid-19 virus.It has been reported in Botswana (3 cases), South Africa (6 cases) and Hong Kong (1 case).
A note from the additional chief secretary, health, and family welfare on the matter stated that the Covid-19 variant B.1.1529 (commonly referred to as the ‘Botswana variant’) has been found to contain a significant number of mutations.This is a serious concern for the country considering the recent relaxations in visa restrictions and the opening of international travel.

The officials cited recommendations from the Union health minister and referred to the variant as a major risk to public health in the state.They also recommended screening all international travelers for the pandemic virus.

The health officials were also asked to sequence the genomes of samples taken from foreign returnees.

The health officials also advised the people of the state to follow the Covid-19 prevention protocol, and to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

With more than 16.69 million vaccinations, the state’s fully vaccinated population surpassed 30% on Thursday.

It was found that 15.52 crore doses were administered in the state.

Nearly 10.87 million people have received both doses, while 4.64 million are fully vaccinated.The percentage of people who have been fully vaccinated in Uttar Pradesh is 30.8 percent, considering that Uttar Pradesh has a population of 15.04 million.

Six new cases of Covid-19 virus were detected in the state within the last 24 hours, while seven others had recovered.The state now has 91 active cases.
