UN Rights chief scared by the number of death toll in recent escalation in Gaza

Geneva 12th August : UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet has expressed concern about the large number of Palestinians including children, killed and injured in the latest violence in Gaza.
“Inflicting trauma to any child in the course of conflicts is deeply alarming and the killing and mutilation of hundreds of kids this year is unethical,” said Bachelet in an announcement to the media on Thursday.

The UN human rights office reported on Thursday that they had confirmed 48 Palestinian deaths in the last week’s violence, which ran between August 5 and 7.Of them, at least 22 of them were civilians which included 17 children and four women, Xinhua news agency reported.

The figures taken from the UN human rights office revealed that in the last week 19 Palestinian children were killed in the Palestinian territory that is occupied.Palestinian territory which brings the number of deaths since the beginning of this year to 37.

The office also noted that even though the ceasefire in the latest tensions in Gaza is in place however, tensions remain high in the West Bank, where four Palestinians were killed and 90 others wounded by live ammunition on the 9th of August.

“The situation in Palestine is extremely fragile, and recent events like those in Nablus could spark further violence in Gaza.

A strict stance is required to stop further bloodshed, for example, by ensuring that guns are used in accordance with international guidelines,” the UN rights Chief stated.
