Kiev, Nov 28, : Ukrainian forces conducted a staff exercise at the border with Belarus as part of Opera “Polissya”, which is aimed to prevent a migrant crisis.This was stated by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS). The exercise, which began on November 23, was carried out by the SBGS, the National Guard, National Police, Armed Forces, and other law enforcement units in Ukraine.
The SBGS stated that the maneuvers were held at four locations along the border in Ukraine’s northern Chernihiv area.
According to the statement the main purpose of the exercises is to acquire the skills necessary to respond to any abrupt changes in border situation.
The Ukrainian authorities have increased the number and equipment of border patrol officers at the frontier as part of this operation to stop illegal migrants trying to cross the border.
During the operation, Ukraine used unmanned aerial vehicles and aviation as well as technical surveillance means.
Since August, thousands of migrants from war-torn Middle East countries have attempted to enter Europe’s Union (EU).
However, they are stuck at the border between Belarus & the EU.
Ukraine shares approximately 1,084 km border with Belarus in northern Belarus.
