U19 Asia Cup Final: Indian Bowlers Shine, Sri Lanka Relegated to 106/9

Dubai, December 31, 2012 : .India’s superb bowling team kept Sri Lanka at 106/9 overs during a rainy final of the U19 Asia Cup here in Dubai.India needs 107 runs in order to win the final, and also the tournament’s eighth edition.
India started its spectacular show with the ball with Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Ravi Kumar pushing Sri Lanka to the backfoot within the first ten overs.

Bawa and Kumar each took one wicket.However, Sri Lanka was further troubled by the addition of Kaushal Tambe as an off-spinner.

Vicky Ostwal, left-arm spinner, was India’s pick with 3/11 runs.

The toss was in Sri Lanka’s favor, but the wickets didn’t turn out their way on the lush green pitch.

The first breakthrough came from India’s left-arm pacer Kumar.Chamindu Wickramasinghe was out for three and Bawa caught him at the third.

Kumar would have had his second wicket but for the slip fielder’s missed run out chance.

Bawa and Kumar kept the pace tight as Sri Lanka crawled up to 15/1 without scoring any boundaries.

Bawa took his first wicket when Shevon Daniel was outfielded by Aaradhya Yadav, who scored six runs.Anjala Bandara and Sadisha Rajapaksa each hit a boundary, but Tambe, an off-spinner, caught the former lbw.

Tambe was able to bowl Pawan Pathiraja four times.Rajapaksa who was in the double figures had to be outscored by Shaik Rasheed, a left-arm spinner Ostwal.

Ostwal returned to the field in 27 overs to capture Dunith Wellalage, who was caught by Bawa mid-wicket and Ranuda Smarathne trapped lbw.Sri Lanka worked hard to get to 74/7 after 33 overs of play was halted by rain.

Sri Lanka was able to bat for five overs for the final time after rain had stopped for almost three hours.A brilliant hit by Rasheed kept Raveen De Silva from falling just short after the match was re-started.

Matheesha and Yasiru rodrigo hit a few boundaries, before Matheesha pulled to a diving Angkrish Rajuvanshi at deep backward-square leg to hand Hangargekar a wicket.
