Turkey To Welcome European Tourists Escaping Surging Winter Heating Bills

Turkey to be pleased to European tourists who are escaping the soaring winter heating costs

Ankara 13 September : Turkey is promoting the benefits of a warm winter holiday in the southern Mediterranean coast for European tourists as a dreary winter is expected to hit the continent amid its long-running energy crisis.
Europeans are anticipating more expensive heating bills for the upcoming season, as their nations continue to take the burden of natural gas shortages that were triggered by the war between Russia and Ukraine as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Turkish industrial insiders informed Xinhua that there were thousands of hotels along the Mediterranean coast are preparing to close at least 50% of their capacity to accommodate “energy tourist” from Europe such as retirees and remote-working professionals.

“Considering the current energy crisis in Europe the people from all of Europe are likely to be interested in our offers of long winter vacations,” said Burhan Sili Chair of the Alanya Touristic Hoteliers Association in Turkey’s most popular destination, known as the Antalya province.

Erkan Yagci chair of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers ‘ and Investors’ Association stated that early reservations indicate that November is going to be busy and this is especially applicable to European tourists.

Germany, Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the Scandinavian countries will be the main markets that the industry will be watching this winter.

“Europeans can choose to enjoy a vacation here in an area with mild weather instead of staying at home.I think that they will think about it,” Sili noted.

Another reason to buy is the luxury experience at a cheaper cost , which is a result of the declining Turkish currency, as in comparison with the cost of vacation in European rivals like Greece, Sili added.

All-inclusive packages also protect European tourists from any unexpected expenses, according to Esra Bilir an operator of tours from the capital city of Ankara.

The seasonal pattern will boost local employment as well as the national economy, which is thriving on tourism revenue, Yagci said, adding “Antalya is the most crucial candidate in fulfilling the European demand”.

Turkey is expected to record an unprecedented tourism season despite the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the energy crisis and an 80 percent increase in the annual rate of inflation.

It had more visitors than in 2019 in the year prior to the time when the coronavirus epidemic ravaged the entire world.

Yigit Bulut is a senior advisor to the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted earlier in the month that one million European Union citizens were expected to spend the winter in Turkey.

He forecast that the hotels in Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya will be filled because reservations have already started.
