Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Nov 28, : .After being ravaged by flooding and extensive damage to its properties over ten days, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is currently mulling a disaster management strategy.
Between November 17-19, records-breaking rainfall was reported in the region, which was unprecedented in the past three decades.This was in response to the depression in Bay of Bengal.

Heavy rains on Sunday also caused inconvenience for pilgrims and devotees.

The TTD Trust manages the affairs at the hilltop shrine of Lord Venkateswara which is renowned as the richest Hindu temple in the world.

Dr.KS Jawahar Reddy, TTD Executive Officer, has directed officials to establish a Disaster Management System in order to assess losses and damages during calamities such as heavy rains, rockfalls on ghat roads, or to issue precautionary alerts for devotees.

Reddy addressed a review meeting in Tirupati Sunday.He stated that a control room should exist during crisis periods in coordination with all departments in order to assist devotees.

He stated that there is an urgent need for devotee services to be revived by undertaking repairs to war footing to ghat streets damaged by recent rains.He also encouraged engineers to make temporary repairs on Srivari Mettu’s footpath, as permanent repairs might take some time.

Rock Bolt Technology has been recommended by experts to be adopted by officials to prevent road sinking and landslides on ghat roads.They were also asked to document rain losses at all locations in order to create an action plan to aid devotees in times of crisis.

Officers involved in disaster management were instructed to follow SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) as part of their duties.
