High Court of Andhra Pradesh permitted the Telangana Government to conduct the Intensive Household Survey on August 19.Giving its judgment on a petition filed challenging the legality of the survey, the High Court clarified that the survey should be optional as people have a right to decide on their participation in the survey

It asked the government not to conduct the survey forcibly.

The court also added that government should not force people to give personal details like bank accounts and mobile numbers

Advocate-general K.Ramakrishna Reddy explaining the stand of the government in conducting the survey and the intentions behind it and added that it was voluntary and no one would be pressurised to participate.The Advocate General told the court that they are not intruding into the personal lives of the people.He said the survey is being conducted for the effective implementation of welfare schemes.After hearing the versions of both the sides, the court gave its permission for the government to conduct the survey.’

The survey should be conducted in a friendly manner, states High Court.The Telangana government has already declared a general holiday for all government offices, educational institutions on the day.
