Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court Satish Chandra Sharma administered the oath of office to the 10 newly appointed judges of the High Court.Kasoju Surender, Surepalli Nanda, Mummineni Sudhirkumar, Juvvadi Sridevi, N.Shravan Kumar Venkat, Gunnu Anupama Chakravarthy, Maturi Girija Priyadarshini, Sambashivarao Naidu, Elephant Santoshreddy and Devaraj Nagarjuna were sworn in.
There are currently 19 serving in the High Court, which should have a total of 42 judges.With the swearing in of 10 new members, the total number of judges will reach 29.This is the first time that the High Court has appointed ten judges at a time.Of these 10 judges, four are women.This brings the total number of women judges in the High Court to 10.The percentage of women in the total judges will increase to 34.48%.
However, with the huge increase in the number of judges, the trial of pending cases will be expedited.Following the appointment of NV Ramana as a Supreme Court judge, judges are being replaced in several courts.
There have been instances in the past where several judges have gone to meetings saying there was a shortage of judges.
