Washington 10th, August : US Representative Scott Perry stated that FBI agents had taken his phone which makes Perry the Pennsylvania Republican the latest all-weather ally of the former president Donald Trump to find himself involved in a growing Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation. In an official statement, Perry said he was traveling with his family on Tuesday morning , when he was approached by three FBI agents with an order to search the contents of his cellphone, as reported by the news agency dpa.
He described their actions as “outrageous” and regretted that they hadn’t first contact his lawyer, stating that he would have been willing to cooperate had he been given the opportunity.
“I’m in awe, but not shocked, to learn that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s DOJ will take the phone of an incumbent Congressman of Congress,” Perry stated in an announcement.
“My phone is filled with information about my political and legislative activities, as well as private conversations with my wife and family members, constituents and my friends.Nothing of these is government-related.”
The motive behind the search, which was initially revealed by Fox News, was not immediately apparent.
Perry was one of the most prominent figures in Pennsylvania trying to alter the results of the state’s elections and on the 6th of January 2021, he Perry led the charge on the House floor to dismantle the state’s electoral votes as well as the wishes of its voters.
In the meantime, he was in frequent contact with the top Trump administration officials in the DOJ in order to investigate conspiracy theories that are debunked regarding widespread fraud in the election The evidence provided by the committee that is investigating the attacks at the Capitol has revealed.
He was asked to testify in front of the committee, however he so not yet agreed to testify because the committee does not have legal authority.
The search warrant issued to Perry came just a few days after the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago Trump’s Florida estate.
Perry was in agreement with Trump’s complaints over the brush with the FBI, describing the FBI actions “banana republican tactics”.
In recent weeks the DOJ has intensified its inquiry into events that led to Trump’s attempts to keep his the presidency and thwart the election in 2020, a string of instances in which Perry has been proven to have played a major role.
Agents have spoken with a number of Trump supporters from Pennsylvania and other states in recent weeks.
In June, the FBI scoured the residences of Jeffrey Clark, a Philadelphia-born DOJ lawyer who Trump had hoped to make attorney general to support his absurd claims of fraud in the election.
